No one knows what the year holds, but we all know that preparing for potential challenges requires planning. This is especially true for South Africans facing hours without electricity. The pandemic showed many of us why it’s important to plan, especially regarding your finances. Planning doesn’t remove the possibility of terrible things happening, but it does equip you with some readiness in case the unimaginable occurs. Therefore, getting a saving plan in place is one of the priorities you can practice this year.

Save your money

Saving a portion of your money will assist in preparing you for any hiccups that may pop up this year. If you are a working youth, you have control over how you handle your income. The reality of inflation and a possible recession this year has our hearts skipping an extra anxious beat. Even so, we can actively participate in securing as much stability as we can by managing our finances well.

Plan before you start saving

Planning how you use your money before saving it will help you commit. You can do month-to-month planning, where you determine what your expenses are and how much you can save each month. If you don’t know where to start, then you can search online for short courses that teach you about personal financial planning while also using apps that help you track and save your money.

Pivot

Finally, it’s easier to pivot when you already have a plan because you know what doesn’t work. Bear in mind that no plan is permanent. You plan while understanding that you may need to adjust or completely change your plans. However, that shouldn’t discourage you from planning. If anything, submit all your plans to God and ask him to bless them. Trust that if your plans fail, it’s simply an opportunity to try another way. Before you know it, through that failure, you have learned and gained skills that you otherwise wouldn’t have.
