Maintaining the balance between your school and entrepreneurship is essential to your success in life. This balance may not look as you imagine it to look. For a school pupil, balance means that school takes top priority, your health and rest take second priority, and your business takes third priority. This helps build your character and teaches you the right skills for being a good steward. You can develop your business and do good at school. All you need is the willingness to learn, the humility to accept guidance, correction and being held accountable when you fall off track. It takes some simple yet effective practices to help get you going.

School and Entrepreneurship: 3 Principles

  1. Set clear and concise priorities: School comes first, then the business second. It is best to dedicate the week, Monday to Friday, for school, then use the weekend for business. You can also set targets for each so that you know what you want to achieve and measure those achievements accordingly.
  2. Plan how you will put those priorities into practice: You can make a schedule for which times you focus on schoolwork, what time you will use for building your business, and how much time you will use for rest. Honour these time limits and boundaries so you can offer your best to your education, business and yourself.
  3. Get the right support from family, friends, and your church community: Getting support and advice from your parents (and other adults) would work significantly to your advantage. There are ideas and skills they have that could help you a lot. A trusted friend(s) could pitch in during your exam and test times to help sustain your business while you focus on school. Your client base could be your church folk so building good relationships with them is essential. Keep them updated to help maintain good relations with them and encourage them to use your services within business hours.

These basic principles help you maintain a healthy momentum. Of course, the scheduling may look different depending on which level of education you are at. Still, it is possible to fulfil for anyone in primary and high schools and varsity or college.

You may not be fully aware of this, but your health is another essential aspect. Good sleep, eating well and taking care of your mental and physical health in between school and business should be valued too. If you don’t take care of yourself, your body will react to that neglect when you least expect it. Remember, you cannot function well if you are not well. Take care of yourself so you can take care of what matters to you.
