Supersized Stress
Ever been so petrified by something that might happen, with your mind filled with 'what if's that you can't get to sleep? Yeah, us too. And sometimes our fear of punishment, danger, loneliness, insert-fear-here, seem well-founded.
But are they, though? The truth is, we sometimes experience a real-life high level of stress about stuff that's only taking place in our heads. So we become paralysed by events that aren't actually happening: fears get out of proportion and step on the toes of the rest of life. But the God who put boundaries on the sea (Proverbs 8:27-29) can restore the boundaries in our worried minds.
Do you feel held back from the peace and freedom that God can bring to you? Take a look at the words in verse 4 after today's verse from Isaiah. Having real peace starts with trust in God. Yes, it takes effort on our part to say a definite 'No' to what holds you back and put your trust in the fact that God holds us. Be persistent in handing things back to God, though, and you'll have some Matthew 11:28-30 rest in your soul.
And we know the above advice might seem a little farfetched, especially if you've been struggling with fear for some time. If that's you, know this: God is on your side. He wants you to know that nothing can separate you from Him: 'It is for freedom that Christ has set us free...' (Galatians 5:1 NIV).
