Godless Worship
Apostle Paul was a busy man. In Acts 17 we find him spending a good amount of time going round Greece, recon-ing the different idols they worshiped. What did he find? Well, he actually realised they were pretty focussed with the whole being-'religious' thing (v.22). They spent a whole lot of time talking about what to worship and how they should do it. Their main problem? They'd tried to fill their lives with earthly things, but not with the actual, living God who made the world and everything in it (v.24). Essentially, they'd missed the point by worshipping God's creation and not God Himself.
Ouch. At the end of the day, though, how prone are we to doing pretty much the same? The world is full of stuff that grabs, and keeps, our attention. In that sense, we can get quite religious about certain things. Money, material stuff, social media, gaming, those kind of things - how often do they rise to the top of priorities, leaving everything else (including God...) behind?
Ouch again. But we're not here to guilt-trip you into feeling bad. The bad news is that those things can't satisfy us. The good news is that God can, and will, bring a whole new level of purpose to your life when we let Him take the lead.
