Pray Now, You're an Allstar (2)
So, prayer isn't about trying to impress God with our stamina or fancy words. It's about inviting Him in, and asking for what He wants (see Matthew 6:5-15 for Jesus' take on that). So, let's look at some handy practical tips for your alone-time with God.
1) Reverently badger God. Sometimes we worry that God won't want to hear our long lists of life-worries. But when we pray, we can know deep down that God hears and wants to answer our prayers in the best way for us. Check Isaiah 62:6-7. Yeah... give Him no rest. Keep it real. Share every point on your list.
2) Team Up. Like we said yesterday, sometimes our problems are too difficult for us to handle alone, and we need someone to pray with us: 'Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven' (Matthew 18:19 NIV). God loves to see us choose to get together, share our prayer needs, and bring them before Him.
3) Thanks. How much good stuff does God send our way that goes unnoticed? Hundreds, thousands? When we slow down enough to look out for them, our whole way of praying changes. Thanking God, even when we're asking for things?... 'In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God' (Philippians 4:6 NIV). Oh. Yeah then.
