Priest to Meet You, Too

So yesterday we broke the news: we're all priests. There are different ways God can speak to us so we can experience His real, life-changing presence. Really, solidly, intimately, knowing that God is on your side is the first, necessary step when it comes to 'priesting' His hope to others.

In Exodus 3, Moses had run away from trouble in Egypt and settled down with some agricultural work. So what did God do? He 'called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!"' (Exodus 3:4 NIV). When we're in need of a kick up the spiritual-life, God can sometimes choose to speak in a way that we can't ignore. (Most of the time, though, He really would rather we were paying attention to Him in the first place. He's the King, after all...)

Later, when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments for a people that desperately needed guidance, there were trumpets, smoke, thunder, you name it (Exodus 20:18). Scary stuff, and it got the importance of the chat across to God's people. Yup, definitely can't ignore that. But, as well as the big, un-ignorable moments, God wants to meet with you, as a friend, each day: 'The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend' (Exodus 33:11 NIV). It's that one-on-one time with God that really sets us on a good foundation. Without it, Moses would have been a completely different leader. With it, not only was Moses guided well, but people around him saw God (literally) shining from his face.
