Beginning of the End (1)

Matthew 24:3 NKJV

What some people call 'The End Times' is, basically, happening now (hold on, don't run to the bunker, hear us out). Our lives are happening between the time that Jesus physically spent here on earth, and the time that He'll return physically to earth again: that's what 'End Times' means. But we've been in that period since Jesus ascended to heaven, so, for over 1,950 years. On a practical level, that means there's a much bigger need for living this in-between-period in the way that Jesus wants (including lovingly telling people about Him). Because He is coming back. And He wants us to be focused on Him when He does.

Handy for us, Matthew 24 is full of Jesus' instructions specifically for this period. The first thing that Jesus said to His disciples, when they asked about the waiting-for-the-second-coming was 'See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray' (Matthew 24:4-5 ESV). Not good. Our thinking on staying true to God under those circumstances is this: prayerfully ask 'does that match up to Jesus?' Whatever anyone teaches you, offers you, or asks of you, pray about it, and ask whether it fits with what Jesus wants, or what Jesus would do Himself. If it goes against the ways of the Christ that you know, chances are, it's not of God.
