Vision

Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives us a vision for our lives, there are a few things we need to know how to do. 1) Hold it. Our vision is governed by a time frame: 'The revelation awaits an appointed time...Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay' (Habakkuk 2:3 NIV). Some of us can have a vision, but we don't follow it through to completion because we are not willing to endure the stretching and discomfort that can be involved. We rush ahead of God and often give up. Jesus said, 'Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit' (John 3:6 NIV). When our vision comes from the Spirit, it'll be sustained by the Spirit. But when it's from our flesh, we are on our own. 2) Hide it. It's a mistake to share our vision with those who can't appreciate it. Joseph shared his vision with his brothers, and they threw him into a pit, sold him into slavery, and pretended he'd died (you can read about this in Genesis 37). Not everybody will celebrate our success, especially if it outshines theirs. So we need to ask God for discernment when sharing our vision with others. 3) Water it. The Bible tells us that 'David found strength in the LORD his God' (1 Samuel 30:6 NIV). We must know how to encourage and strengthen ourselves spiritually, and how to water our vision. When God plants a seed of vision in us, we need to give it water by strengthening our faith. We can do that by spending time in God's presence, listening to Him, and learning from His Word.
