Surprise!: It's Us
There's an easily skip-overable moment in Genesis 2. After it's done listing all the things that God's created in the world, it stops to say: 'There would also be loads of plants, but they hadn't appeared yet because humans hadn't been working the soil.' There's a lot in that. This is a story about the creation of the world, and it finishes by saying 'it's not finished until people come to keep creating it'.
What do we learn? That God partners with us. The world isn't a big old clock that He's wound up and let go - no, we're involved, hand in hand with God, to make the world good. That helps us know more about why we're supposed to preach the gospel. Ever heard someone ask, 'If God wants to save people, why doesn't He just do it Himself?'. This is why. He's committed to work in the world with us.
We have been privileged to hear the greatest story. Not only that, we're a key part of it, being the people who have been rescued by Jesus. It falls to us to declare that hope to others, pouring our lives out in service of a King, over and over again until the day that we're called home. Doesn't sound too easy? We know. But more often than not, those 'great people of the Bible' started small, and let God use them.
