He's been here.
Henry Poppen committed forty years of his life in China to sharing Jesus's love and how He died to take away everyone's sin. After one of his sermons, a man told him, 'We know this Jesus! He's been here.' Henry was obviously baffled and explained that Jesus lived centuries ago in a country far away from China. But the man wouldn't accept this and took Henry to the cemetery. The man presented Henry with the grave of a missionary doctor who lived and died among the people in a remote Chinese village. So why did the man think this doctor was Jesus? Because of the attributes he showed were the ones Jesus exemplified: mercy, love, kindness, forgiveness.
You might want to take a seat. Ready? All right. These are attributes we should strive to show. Jesus lived to show us how to live. On our own this is daunting, but we're not alone and God longs to mould us: '...can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand' (Jeremiah 18:6 NLT). On its own, clay is just clay: nothing more than a pile of dirt. But when an artist gets their hands on it, they make something beautiful and useful out of it. Being shaped and moulded is likely to be an uncomfortable, maybe even painful, experience, but it'll be worth it, even if only one person points and says, 'they're like Jesus.'
