Beginning of the End (3)
There are two major types of persecution going on in the world right now: the 'smash' type, which you see a lot of in the news, where Christians are tortured and murdered, and the more gradual 'squeeze' type, where a society pressures Christians with blasphemy charges or exclusion if they don't convert. The news is simple and stark: across the world, treatment of Christians can get pretty grim.
What can we do in the face of that? First up, in the face of violence against Christians (whatever that looks like), we can't respond with violence in kind, or hatred in kind. That's just not what Jesus did. He told us to cling to God, and respond with bottomless love. Next, and importantly - let's not lose sight of the fact that the Church is still proclaiming Jesus as Lord and bringing people to life in Him. If we've got that (which we still do), then we've got an awful lot. Jesus saw persecution coming and told His followers to expect it. So that means He doesn't expect it to call a halt to the Church. BUT. We're family. We're part of a family that's getting kicked and spat on, even if it is on the other side of the globe. What do you do when you hear that someone from your family has been hurt or attacked? You drop everything and do whatever you can to help.
