You're unique

Jeremiah 1:5 NIV

Society gives us mixed messages about our identity. One minute we're told that we need to be like everyone else, have what everyone else has and look a certain way. Then the next we're told we should embrace our uniqueness and be ourselves.

But the truth is that we've been made by God. He made us uniquely and had a purpose for us before we were even born. God told Jeremiah: 'Before you were born I set you apart.' And the same is true for us too. God knew everything about us before we were born. 'For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb... Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:14;16 NIV).

Sometimes we look at the way we've been made and think God made a mistake. We'd rather look like someone else or we'd rather have someone else's personality and gifting. But God doesn't make mistakes. And He doesn't want us comparing ourselves to others. God loves us just as we are. And we can embrace who He made us to be, and the purpose He has for us without looking at other people or wishing we were different.

We should be thankful for who we are and what we can do. We should be able to say: 'I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well' (Psalm 139:14 NIV).
