How big is your God?

1 Samuel 17:47 NIV

How we handle life depends on how big we believe God is. If He's too small: 1) We'll live in constant anxiety thinking everything depends on us. We think we need to fix things on our own and become overwhelmed with problems. 2) Our outlook will be dictated by our surroundings and circumstances. We will be focused on what's in front of us rather than on the God who can move any mountain that stands in our way. 3) Without the acceptance of a loving God we'll be people-pleasers who are influenced by other people's opinions. The words and actions of others will influence our emotions and behaviours. 4) We'll constantly crave recognition because we don't understand that God sees us, cares for us, and loves us. He sees everything we do for Him. Hebrews 6 says: 'For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers' (v.10 NLT). When Goliath threatened the Israelites, they were 'dismayed and terrified' (1 Samuel 17:11 NIV). They didn't think their God was big enough for the job. But David thought differently. David volunteered himself to fight the giant Goliath. He remembered that God had saved him before, and believed that He would save him now (have a read of 1 Samuel 17:32-37). We can face anything when we know what David knew - 'the battle is the Lord's'. And God's never lost a battle. We don't have to depend on our own resources. David may have felt small, but he knew that didn't matter, because his God was big enough. When we face battles in our lives, let's remember how big God is and how able and willing He is to come through for us.
