Wisdom

Proverbs 4:6 NCV

When it comes to relationships with others, we need wisdom - God's wisdom. His wisdom is perfect. The Bible says: 'The wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and...good deeds. It shows no favouritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness' (vv.17-18 NLT). If we do things from our own understanding we can end up with heartbreak and hurt. We can feel like we need to put ourselves first, carry on when we should let go, or run away when we should stand our ground. But Proverbs 3 says: 'Trust the LORD with all your heart, and don't depend on your own understanding. Remember the LORD in all you do, and he will give you success (vv.5-6 NCV). God's wisdom is so much better than ours. We need to be trusting what He's saying rather than our own thoughts. Right now, we have so many voices in the world trying to tell us how to live. It's not surprising that we can start listening to them over God. Whether it's magazines, social media feeds, or vlogs, we're bombarded with relationship advice and things we should aim for. We see other people's relationships and we start to wonder why ours isn't matching up. We compare ourselves to others and feel bitter when we come up short. The Bible says: 'Hold on to wisdom, and it will take care of you. Love it, and it will keep you safe' (Proverbs 4:6 NCV). We need to be asking for God's wisdom to keep our hearts safe in our relationships with others.
