When we think of living by faith, we think of God’s provision on the condition that we live according to His will. But that is the somewhat confusing part because what is God’s will?
I have sat in numerous sermons in which I was warned that I need to remain in God’s will for my life, otherwise something really bad will happen.
In my mind, I see myself facing Jesus after death, and He is disappointed with me because I became a Sound Engineer instead of a Mechanical Engineer and His will for me was to become a Mechanical Engineer, and now I have completely missed my calling!
Have you ever felt like that? Do you believe it is a Biblical way of living?
Jesus promises us that when He sets us free, we are free (John 8:36, NIV); correct me if I am wrong, but constantly worrying whether you are in God’s will is not liberating. I didn’t feel free at all. Jesus also promised that if we come to Him, we would feel His yoke is soft, and His burden is light (Matt 11: 28-30, NIV). But, again, it felt as if His yoke was not at all soft, and neither was His load light. It was hard and heavy.
To find my way through this, I looked for a Biblical way of determining God’s will, and I believe I found it. Matthew 28:19-20 gives us direction, and basically, it says go tell people about Jesus. The Bible never states that Jesus will give us a blueprint for our lives; honestly, I do not think God wants to give us one. I do not necessarily believe God worries about what career we choose, where we should stay and stuff like that. God wants us to make people His disciples. Period. That is His will for your life.
