Female leaders and women with great influence are undeniably present in the Bible, from the famous Judge and worshiper, Deborah, to Ester and all the way to Mary Magdalene who was the first to spread the message that Jesus has risen.
The great Author of the Bible must be a fan of female leaders if He would allow for their influence to be recorded throughout scripture. Depending on how little you know about this topic, your cultural and (social) media influences, your view on women having leadership roles, in the church, may be skewed. To make matters worse, bible verses that address how a woman should conduct herself can sometimes be misinterpreted. Unfortunately, those who misinterpret these topics then also teach more oppressive versions of what Christian women can or cannot do. For this reason, it is essential that we study the word for ourselves to better understand what it teaches or do further research using good commentary Bible study books.
Currently, there are a few women, especially abroad, in ministry making waves as leaders of their churches but these women are far and few between. The South African pool of female church leaders seems to be even smaller. Therefore, should Church leaders be doing more to encourage female leaders in our (local) communities?
In this episode, Given and Charl reveal the true beauty of female leadership from a biblical perspective and share some of the powerful stories of women who did the thing in Old and New Testament times. You can find all our podcasts on iono.fm.
