Some days,“How are you?” feels like a difficult question.
“I’m fine” has become an automatic response, even when you’re exhausted from studying, working, job hunting, worrying about money, navigating relationships, or simply trying to figure out what your future is supposed to look like.
And sometimes, even faith feels exhausting.
“You don’t have to carry tomorrow’s problems with today’s strength.”
Come as You Are
You know you should pray. You know you should trust God. You know the Bible says not to worry.
But knowing the right things doesn’t always make you feel better.
The good news is that God is not intimidated by your exhaustion.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Notice what Jesus doesn’t say. He doesn’t tell the weary to pull themselves together first. He doesn’t ask the burdened to become stronger before approaching Him.
He simply says, Come.
Tired Doesn’t Mean Faithless
Sometimes we think being a “strong Christian” means never struggling. Yet Scripture is filled with people who became tired, discouraged, afraid and overwhelmed.
Elijah reached a point of complete exhaustion (1 Kings 19:4–8). David wrote honestly about anguish and despair (Psalm 42). Even Jesus withdrew from the crowds to quiet places to pray (Luke 5:16).
God did not abandon them in their weariness.
Instead, Scripture repeatedly reveals His compassionate heart toward tired people.
Perhaps your exhaustion isn’t proof that you’re failing spiritually. Perhaps it’s simply a reminder that you were never created to carry everything alone.
Maybe You Don’t Need to Do More
We live in a world that celebrates constant movement. Keep achieving. Keep producing. Keep pushing.
Eventually, we can bring that same mindset into our relationship with God.
Pray more. Read more. Serve more. Try harder.
But maybe your next step with God isn’t doing more.
Maybe it’s learning to stop.
You don’t have to have everything figured out today. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay when you’re not. And you don’t have to carry tomorrow’s problems with today’s strength.
Take a breath.
Pray honestly.
Rest when you need to.
Retrain your mind not to see rest as wasted time. God isn’t asking you to run endlessly until you collapse. He invites you to walk with Him.
And sometimes walking with God begins with one very honest prayer:
“Lord, I’m tired. I need You.”
