Post-G20 Summit: How Can You Engage?

With the recent G20 summit our country has recently hosted, the question for the nation’s youth is straightforward: what stance should you adopt moving forward? The G20’s ambitious agenda on economic recovery, climate action, and social justice sets a global tone, but real progress depends on active participation beyond the summit halls.

“Youth aren’t just participants in the future — they are the watchdogs of the present.”

Is This Conversation Only for World Leaders?

Is this a conversation for youth, or is it strictly for world leaders and policymakers?
Perhaps it is time for South African youth to show that there’s more to them than just “vibes”.

Youth Power: More Than Just “Vibes”

Our youth, YOU, have the power to stir the waters of change massively by embracing a posture of vigilant engagement and proactive accountability. This means staying informed about the commitments made during the summit and demanding transparency and follow-through from political leaders and institutions.

From Passive Observers to Critical Watchdogs

Rather than passively observing, young people should be, and to an extent are, critical watchdogs, ensuring that promises turn into policies that benefit all, especially marginalised communities.

A Collaborative, Solutions-Driven Mindset

Furthermore, youth should adopt a collaborative and solutions-driven mindset. The G20 highlighted challenges such as inequality and climate change — issues that deeply affect younger generations. By organising community initiatives, participating in policy dialogues, and leveraging digital platforms to raise awareness, youth can help bridge the gap between global commitments and local realities.

Youth Are Already Innovators and Advocates

South African youth are proving to be innovators and advocates, and your voice is ringing louder and louder in all the right spaces. The summit’s focus on digital regulation and social justice opens doors for young entrepreneurs, activists, and creatives to propose fresh ideas and hold governments accountable.

Pushing for Inclusive, Sustainable Development

Here’s where you can push for inclusive economic opportunities and sustainable development that align with the G20’s goals, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Your Role Requires Courage and Action

Your role post-G20 is far from passive. It requires courage, vigilance, and action. By adopting a stance that combines critical oversight with constructive participation, you can be the driving force that transforms summit promises into meaningful, lasting change for our country and the world.

The Summit Has Ended — Your Momentum Begins

The summit may have ended, but the world watches as momentum for change picks up.
